Church of San Salvatore ai Monti Transferred to Georgian Parish of Rome

In the framework of President Salome Zourabichvili’s official visit to the Holy See, the church of San Salvatore ai Monti in Rome was granted to the Georgian parish of Rome in a formal agreement after years of use by the local Georgian community. The President held discussions on this issue with Cardinal Angelo De Donatis, Vicar General of His Holiness, after which she attended a service at the church with Protopresbyter Giorgi Zviadadze, Rector of the Tbilisi Theological Academy and Seminary. The President congratulated Father John, head of the Saint Andrew the First Georgian Parish in Rome, and spoke about the importance of the Church for Georgians living abroad:

“I understand very well the importance of this church from my own background, the Georgian church in Paris was founded by my father. I would like to congratulate the parishioners of this church on this important event and ask you, too, when you convey this very good news to everyone, to convey this great joy and congratulations from me as well. We had a very difficult year because of the pandemic and I want to wish next year be much easier.”

An official document on the transfer of the church of San Salvatore ai Monti for the right of long-term temporary use to the Georgian Parish will be signed in the near future.
