On November 15, on the occasion of the completion of the diplomatic mission, Pope Francis held a farewell meeting with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Georgia to the Holy See Tamara Grdzelidze.
The sides summarized the last 4 years and positively assessed the existing bilateral relations between Georgia and the Holy See. The sides spoke about the increasing level of co-operation in the areas of culture, science and education. Special mention was made of the highest-level visits between two countries. In this context, Ambassador Grdzelidze emphasized the visit of Pope Francis to Georgia in 2016.
Pope Francis thanked the Ambassador for her contribution to the further strengthening and deepening of friendly relations between the two countries.
Tamara Grdzelidze handed over a farewell gift, the icon of Saint Francis, to the Holy Father, created by Georgian iconographer Davit Khidasheli.
Tamara Grdzelidze is due to complete her term of office to the Holy See on 31st of December.
